Court imposes penalty on frivolous petition

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand High Court has slapped a penalty of Rs 50,000 on a petitioner for wasting the time of the court on a frivolous issue.

A division Bench headed by Chief Justice J S Khehar also dismissed the petition of Rajiv Gupta, who had challenged the election of Union Minister of State for Labour Harish Rawat from Haridwar Lok Sabha constituency.

Gupta had challenged the election claiming Rawat, who had filed his nomination papers under the name Harish Chandra Singh Rawat, was declared elected as Harish Rawat only.
