Mumbai:
The Bombay High Court on Thursday refused to stay the Mumbai Marathon slated for January 17, 2010.
The High Court observed that the event gives joy and some life to citizens of Mumbai. It has also become a part of the city's culture. As citizens have right to life, those who want to run have the right to run, the court observed.
Alka Shah, a social worker from Worli, had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) and sought a stay on the event citing various reasons.
The PIL cited, possible terror attacks, "non-payment" of dues of over Rs1.3 crore by Standard Chartered to the BMC, and the inconvenience suffered by the public due to traffic diversions, among reasons for putting a stay on the event.
