Meerut:
Police on Tuesday claimed to have gunned down the criminal allegedly involved in the killing of cricketer Gagandeep.
Ankit Chauhan, a dreaded criminal and carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head was on Monday killed by Bulandshar police in an encounter.
"We intercepted the criminal at a checkpost. He opened fire on being stopped and was eventually killed in the encounter," IGP Meerut Javed Akhtar said.
A police inspector was also injured in the incident.
Gagandeep, 19, was killed during a shootout at an eatery in Meerut in October 2009.
