Nashik:
A 27-year-old notorious criminal was shot dead after being allegedly stabbed by unidentified persons in Rajiv Nagar here, police said today.
Bhim Sampat Pagare, who had been booked earlier under charges of murder, looting and other criminal offences, was allegedly attacked last night by assailants, who first stabbed him with a chopper knife and then shot three bullets into him, they said.
A resident of Malhar Khan slum, Gangapur Road locality, Pagare succumbed to serious bullet injuries on his way to the Nashik Civil hospital, Indira Nagar police told PTI today.
Soon after the attack, senior police officials, including Commissioner of Police, rushed to the spot.
Police has launched a manhunt to nab the assailants and security has been beefed up in Nashik Civil hospital area after Pagare's relatives and supporters gathered in large numbers in the hospital premises, they said.
