Dacoits loot cash, jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh

Gorakhpur: Three members of a family were critically wounded as armed dacoits looted cash and jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh from their residence in Pipiganj area of Gorakhpur district on Monday, says police.

Injured house owner Ram Ajit Verma, aged 52, and his two sons Sunil and Ashok have been shifted to the district hospital, police said.

According to police, more than 10 dacoits entered Mr Verma's residence around 3 am and snatched gold chains, rings and keys of almirahs. Police said, when Mr Verma's two sons resisted, the dacoits hurled countrymade bombs at them.

The dacoits decamped with Rs 26,000 cash, investment certificates worth over Rs 95,000 and some jewellery items.

According to sources, a station house officer and two constables have been suspended on charges of dereliction of duty.
