An active member of Dawood Ibrahim's gang Firoz alias Dawat was arrested in Ambedkarnagar on Friday by the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh police.
Firoz, a native of Jogeshwari, East Thana in Mumbai, was arrested in Alapur police station area in the afternoon, police sources said.
Firoz, who had lately been involved in extortion of money from Mumbai builders and had been sending it to Munna Jhingara, his associate through Hawala, was looking for a base here, police said.
A countrymade pistol of 315 bore, five cartridges and two mobile phones were recovered from his possession, police added.
