Ahmedabad:
A 27-year-old 'businessman' was found shot to death in his rented apartment sometimes on late Monday night. He apparently shot himself in the chest in flat number 803 of Parth Apartment near Ambawadi circle in Panchvati.
The man was reportedly in debt believed to be in the range of Rs60 lakh to Rs70 lakh and this might have made him take the extreme step, cops said. Gujarat University police have registered a case of accidental death and are investigation the matter. The man was identified as Dipesh Patel.
His parents and a brother live in Umang Pariwar Society in Vasna.
Dipesh had been living in the apartment for a rent of Rs20,000 per month.
"The angle of the gun shot is so close that prima facie it looks like suicide. An accidental death case has been lodged but further investigation is going on," said Satish Sharma, sector-1, joint commissioner of police.
Assistant commissioner of police NC Patel said that before killing himself Dipesh had sent a text message to his driver at around 3 am on Monday.
Dipesh had asked his driver to inform his parents if he (driver) found anything suspicious in the morning (Tuesday) in the flat.
Sources said that Dipesh had sent four text messages to his driver and it was when the police questioned the driver that they came to know of Dipesh's betting habit and debts.
Sources said initial investigations have revealed that Dipesh had landed in a debt of around Rs60 lakh to Rs70 lakh due to his betting habits.
"His flat was also used as a betting den," said sources.
