Ahmedabad:
National Institute of Design (NID) governing council chairman Salman Haidar has demanded that the institute be formally acknowledged as a Centre of Excellence (CoE) by the government.
The governing council chairman also felt that a Design Museum in the city was overdue. At the 30th convocation held here on Tuesday, Haidar said: "Formal recognition as a centre of excellence within the committee of academic institutions of India is necessary for which there has to be a formal decision by the government."
"It would be an advantage for this institution and the design movement as a whole if NID is now granted this distinction," he said.
Haidar further said that other institutes which have been similarly recognised have benefited from it and so will NID if it were to be recognised as a Centre of Excellence.
