Delhi: 1200 Safdarjung doctors go on strike

New Delhi: Close to 1200 resident doctors at the Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi have gone on a strike after some nurses and female doctors, working with the gynaecology department, were roughed up when a patient died on Tuesday morning.

"We are on strike since 9.30 am today and this will continue till our demands for better security are met," General Secretary of residents Doctors Association, Safdarjung Hospital, Dr Raj told PTI.

"This is the not the first time that an incident like this with a doctor has happened inside the hospital premises. Every second day patients' relatives manhandle doctors and nothing has been done to ensure our security," he said.

"When we talked to the Medical Superintendent he said that a tender for security has been floated and it is almost two months and no development has taken place in this regard," Dr Raj claimed. (With PTI Inputs)
