New Delhi: Another low-floor bus of the Delhi Transport Corp (DTC) caught fire in west Delhi on Sunday morning, an official said. No one was injured.
The incident took place at 9.20 a.m. in Sagarpur area. The rear tyre of the bus caught fire and the driver evacuated the bus safely, a fire official said.
The fire brigade doused the fire.
On Saturday, two low-floor buses had caught fire in the Capital.
This is the sixth time in the past 18 days that a bus running on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) has caught fire in Delhi.
The incidents are a setback to Delhi government's plans of phasing out the privately-owned Blueline buses before the Commonwealth Games next year and replace them with 3,500 low-floor CNG-fuelled buses.
The Delhi government has ordered an inquiry into the incidents and urged Tata Motors, which supplies the buses, to fix the problem.
"We are following all norms and there is no defect in the design of the low-floor buses. We are using certified equipments and parts. The maintenance of these buses are with Tata, so the fault is theirs," said RK Kasana, chief manager of DTC.
