A 12-year-old boy was shot dead during firing at a marriage ceremony in Shahabad village in Outer Delhi late on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred at around midnight after some people from the groom's side started firing in the air when a marriage procession arrived at the village from Jhajjar, Haryana.
The deceased identified as Amit Kumar had come to attend the wedding of his cousin Reena and was watching the baraat arrive when a bullet hit him in the head. Amidst the commotion, no one realised what had happened until Amit fell down.
His family rushed the 12-year-old to the nearby Brahmashakti Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. The police have registered an FIR under section 302 of IPC.
According to Suresh Kumar, father of the boy, all people from groom's side, including the groom himself, fled the scene.
The police are trying to get the video recording of the function to identify the culprits.
"We have sent three teams to Jhajjar in search of the accused and have registered an FIR against unknown people," said a police officer.
