Delhi businessman kills 6-year-old son with hammer

Delhi: A young businessman allegedly hammered his six-year-old son to death under the influence of alcohol in South Delhi on Sunday.

Arpit was playing video games at their house in Safdarjung area when his father Bhupinder Kumar allegedly repeatedly hit on his head with a hammer at around 3 PM.

Kumar is said to be a habitual drinker and used to fight with his wife Sarada and two children. "His wife had gone to her house after a quarrel and she had returned only recently. Arpit is very close to his mother and Kumar is said to be angry about it," a senior police official said.

"The father was drunk and hit his son with a hammer on his head due to which the boy died. He used to allegedly beat Arpit and 11-year old sister Sonu often," the official said.

Arpit started bleeding and when neighbours came to know about the incident, they rushed him to AIIMS trauma centre, where he died. They also allegedly beat up Kumar before handing over him to police.

The official said Arpit's mother was not at house when the incident took place and was reportedly out collecting money from the buildings they have rented out.

A case has been registered.
