Delhi:
It was Girl Power at its best when a Delhi girl sprayed pepper in the eyes of a garment merchant after he allegedly tried to molest her at the Sarojini Nagar market on Thursday.
The shopkeeper allegedly passed lewd comments against Sanjana, a student of a nursing institute, while showing some t-shirts to her.
A resident of Sriniwaspuri, Sanjana had gone to the market with her sister Somya. She said she carries the spray with her for safety like thousands of other girls in the city.
The errant salesman collapsed on the floor for a few moments. In the meantime, Somya called the police. "The accused has been identified as Vinod Kumar and was arrested under section 354/509 of the IPC," said a senior police officer.
"Sanjana and Somya initially brushed him aside and went to another shopkeeper but Vinod approached them again on the pretext of showing them clothes. He tried to drag Sanjana by her hand. Sanjana pushed him away but he caught hold of Somya and tried to drag her too. Sanjana then took out a pepper spray canister from her purse and sprayed it into his eyes," the officer added.
