Delhi Metro's network will expand a little on Saturday when a new stretch in Dwarka will be made operational, benefiting thousands of people in the sub-city.
The 2.76-km stretch from Dwarka Sector 9 to Dwarka Sector 21 will be thrown open to the public on October 30 after it received the mandatory clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety.
The opening of the line is significant as Dwarka Sec-21 will become a major interchange stations once the showcase Airport Express Line becomes operational sometime next month.
With the opening of the small stretch, services from Noida and Anand Vihar will be extended till Dwarka Sec-21, a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesman said.
DMRC officials said a formal inaugural function for the line is unlikely.
With this, the DMRC will have a total operational Metro network of approximately 156 kilometers with 132 Metro stations.
At present, 58 Metro trains are catering to the operational requirements on Line 3 (Dwarka Sector 9 to Noida/Anand Vihar).
The extension of Metro services till Dwarka Sector 21 will help the people coming from the residential colonies of Dwarka Sector 8 and Sector 21.
