Delhi: Metro to reach Badarpur soon
New Delhi: Residents of Badarpur in south Delhi may finally get to enjoy the Metro comfort as the stretch connecting it to Sarita Vihar will be inspected on Tuesday for the mandatory safety clearance before the commencement of operations.

Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) R K Kardam will inspect the five-km stretch, which is part of the Central Secretariat- Badarpur Standard Gauge corridor.

"I will be inspecting the remaining part of the Badarpur line tomorrow," Kardam told reporters on Monday.

Once Kardam gives the green signal, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (DMRC) can inaugurate the line anytime.

A DMRC official said they will decide on the date of the opening only after getting approval from the CMRS.

DMRC had rescheduled the opening of the 5-km stretch, part of the Central Secretariat-Badarpur Standard Gauge line, to November after it missed the Commonwealth Games deadline.

Work on the stretch was fast tracked after the Commonwealth Games, especially the signaling work. Once operational, the line will be integrated with the Central Secretariat-Sarita Vihar section. This will help thousands of residents in Badarpur area and Faridabad in Haryana to commute easily to the national capital and back.

Kardam said he has not received any request from the Delhi Metro for undertaking an inspection of the showcase Airport Express Line, which failed to safety clearance in September. The consortium led by Reliance Infrastructure had last month wrote to Delhi Metro asking it to invite the CMRS for inspecting the line. A team of officials from the Delhi Metro undertook a preliminary inspection of the corridor last month.

The team is understood to have satisfied with the progress on the high-speed corridor.

It is expected that the DMRC will approach the CMRS in the next few days asking him to inspect the line.
