Delhi government is seriously considering a new legislation to control price rise of various essential commodities.
This was stated by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit at a function on Sunday.
"Delhi Government is seriously considering formulating an act to control price rise of various essential commodities," Dikshit said.
She also said Delhi government is awaiting permission from the Centre to strengthen Essential Commodities Act to control hoarders and black-marketers.
Noting that her government was using all efforts to provide maximum relief and reducing burden to people, she said the government's aim was to sell 'atta' and 10 kinds of pulses to mitigate inflationary trends in food items.
"Wholesale and retail price of wheat and atta have shown a sharp increase in the last few months for which Delhi government has taken a major step to provide atta and pulses at a less rate to open market.
"Government is offering nutritious atta in 10-kg bag at Rs 139 against Rs 189 in open market," she said.
Dikshit further said the Weights and Measures Department has started surprise checking and ensured sale of essential commodities in a vigilant manner.
