Delhi: Parents fight hike in school fees

New Delhi: A federation of various parents' associations have demanded immediate intervention of the city government for directing private schools not to increase fee arbitrarily.

Alleging that some private schools have increased their fees manifold, Delhi Abhibhawak Mahasangh also demanded that the government direct these institutions to roll back the rise.

"The government must ask the schools to withdraw the fee hike as it was effected without consent of the Parents Teacher Associations," president of the organisation Vijender Gupta said.

He said if the government does not force schools to withdraw the hike, then Delhi Abhibhwak Mahasangh will gharao the errant schools and launch an agitation.

Gupta also demanded formation of a statutory body comprising representatives of Parent Teacher Associations, schools and prominent educationists to decide about the fee structure in unaided public schools.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit last month had told private schools not to raise fees without approval of the Parent Teacher Associations as directed by the state education department.

The Education department had issued a circular on April one in which it was stated that no private school will be allowed to hike fees without the approval of the Association.

Some private schools have already effected 15 to 20 per cent hike in fees and asked parents to pay the increased amount.
