New Delhi:
In a tragic incident exposing railways' apathy, one of its own employees was run over twice at Old Delhi railway station on Friday before the body could be spotted, prompting the DRM to order an inquiry into the incident.
The incident happened at around 9.30 am when 50-year-old Mahesh Kumar, working in the stores department, was run over by a local train while he was crossing the tracks. Ten minutes later, the body was run over by a second local train passing through the same track.
"The DRM, Delhi Division, has ordered an inquiry into the incident to ascertain what took the station administration so long to recover the body before the second train could also run over him," said a Northern Railway spokesperson.
Sources, however, said the GRP had informed the station manager about a man being run over, but they failed to act fast to recover the body.
The spokesperson said police is also inquiring into the circumstances that led to his death, while not ruling out a case of suicide.
