Delhi: Shop owner shot dead in celebratory firing at wedding

New Delhi: A 40-year-old electronics appliances shop owner was shot dead during celebratory firing at a marriage ceremony in west Delhi, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place in an MCD community hall in Budela village of Vikaspuri at around 11:30 pm and the victim has been identified as Hemant Bijnani, who resided in Dilshad Garden, a senior police official said.

Hemant had gone with one of his friends Gopal to the wedding after shutting down his shop in Chandi Chowk. The victim was not invited to the wedding and went there to spend some time with the friend and share a few drinks with him.

"Someone in the wedding party fired shots in the air and a bullet hit Hemant's chest. He was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead," the official said.
