Delhi sizzles at season's highest temperature

New Delhi: The Capital on Monday sizzled as mercury climbed to the season's highest of 45.4 degree
Celsius. This was also the highest temperature in May in the past eight years.

Today's maximum was 1.5 degrees up from yesterday's high and four degrees above normal for this point of time during the year. The minimum touched 28.2 degree Celsius as against yesterday's 25.6 degrees.

The humidity oscillating between 15 and 59 per cent added to the woes.

The Weatherman has predicted no relief for the Capital with the temperature likely to oscillate between 28 and 44 degree Celsius. There could also be the possibility of dust and thunder storm with squall during the day on Tuesday.

The city had recorded a high of 44.4 degrees last week. The last time the temperature surpassed the 44-degree mark in the month of May was in 2006 when the seventh day of the month recorded 44.5 degrees.

The previous highest in the decade was recorded on May 19, 2002 when it touched 46 degree Celsius.
     
The maximum temperature in the month of May was 43 degrees in 2009 (May 19), 43 degrees in 2008 (May 5) and 42.7 degrees in 2007 (May 16). The all-time record for the month was on May 29, 1944 when the mercury touched 47.2 degrees.
