Delhi tops list of most delayed airports

Washington: Airports in India and China are among the most delayed in the world and Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport tops the list with least timely arrivals, according to Forbes magazine.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi tops the list of airports with the least timely arrivals, as just 45 per cent of flights arrive on time in Delhi.

Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai and Istanbul's Ataturk International Airport also shares the dubious distinction of being the worst airports in this category.

In a news article 'The World's Most Delayed Airports', Forbes said Delhi is followed by Beijing among the top airports with the least timely arrivals.

Forbes said its conclusions are based in the statistics received from FlightStats, a service that tracks historical and real-time flight information around the globe.

For departures, Dubai International Airport and Moscow Sheremetyevo International Airport follow Beijing, the news report said.

For the world's least delayed airports, look to Japan and South Korea, it said.

Flights at Osaka's Itami Airport arrived and departed on time 94 percent of the time in 2009, according to FlightStats.

At Seoul's Gimpo International Airport, 91 percent of passenger flights arrived on time, and 93 percent departed as scheduled, it said.
