New Delhi: Hans Raj College here was closed on Wednesday after a visually impaired student hailing from Agra was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hostel room in the campus.
The body of Mukesh Kumar (22), a second year BA Hindi Honours student, was found at around 7:30 pm last evening in Room No 143 in Hans Raj College hostel.
He was found hanging in the room but his hands were found tied in the front, a senior police official said.
Investigators said they were yet to ascertain the cause of the death. Mukesh hails from Rudra village in Uttar Pradesh's Agra district.
Sagarprit Hooda, DCP (North) said, "The body was found hanging from the ceiling fan with his hands tied."
"We are not sure whether it is a case of suicide or murder. It appears to be a case of murder. We are investigating the matter," officials said.
College authorities have also called a meeting of the hostel committee to look into the matter.
Police are questioning Kumar's classmates to ascertain the circumstances which led to his death. Kumar's family members arrived in the capital early morning on Wednesday.
