Delhi wakes up to another wet morning, city traffic slow

New Delhi: Delhi woke up to another wet morning on Friday, a day after heavy rains lashed the Capital and threw the normal life out of gear. Though, the intensity of the rain was relatively less, vehicular movement was affected in Delhi. (Delhi rain: Send your photos here)

There were no major traffic jams in the city as such but slow moving traffic was reported from various parts of the city including the DND toll, from Dhaula Kuan to Subroto Park, at Meethapur chowk and at the Moolchand flyover.

In the last 24 hrs, Delhi has received 110 mm of rain. Delhi normally receives around 167.8mm of rain in the month of August. This year, the Capital has received 331.6mm of rain, which is 98% in excess, with 10 days still left for the month of August to end.

On Thursday, the people of Delhi were drenched in the heaviest downpour of the season, which brought with it traffic snarls and water-logging besides leaving at least eight persons injured in four building collapse incidents.(Read: Rain disrupts traffic in Delhi)

The rain gauges measured 104.52 mm at the Lodhi Road MeT Office while its Safdurjung office recorded 89.3 mm between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm on Thursday. The Palam Weather Office recorded 53.9 mm of rains during the same period.
