On a searing Monday, Delhi was prepared for the worst.  Water tankers were on stand-by as protestors warned that for the second day in a row, they would cut off the water supply from UP to Delhi.

South and West Delhi were meant to be worst-affected.

But by 11 am, came the welcome news that the protestors -Jats demanding reservation in colleges and government jobs- had decided to end their demonstration.  Delhi homes could expect relief in a few hours, said authorities.

The Jat protests began on Sunday.  Two water treatment plants in Delhi which provide the capital with a third of its water were affected.

The truce was called on Monday after representatives of the protesting Jats were given an appointment with a representative of the central government to discuss their demands.
