New Delhi:
Friday was not the coldest day of the season, but certainly it was the capital's foggiest day in seven years that has paralysed the city. Trains are running way behind schedule and road traffic is on a crawl.
The worst affected are airlines, as runway visibility has dipped under 100 metres, making it impossible for flights to take off or land.
"We know delays are unavoidable, so we have come prepared," said a woman commuter.
Flights equipped with the advanced CAT III landing system can land in low visibility but most budget airlines don't have it.
In any case, visibility on Friday was less than 100 metres making it impossible for planes to land or take off even with the CAT technology.
Ironically, on days that flights use CAT III, there are delays because these landings and take offs take twice the time of a normal landing.
So, till the fog lifts the country's busiest airports, that handles 700 landings and take offs a day, remains hit.
