Chennai: A 43-year-old Sri Lankan national was arrested at the airport in Chennai for allegedly smuggling diamonds worth Rs 1.5 crore hidden in a condom, police said on Thursday.
The accused, Mohammed Kabir, had arrived in Chennai by an Air India Express from Colombo last evening and when police questioned him on suspicion, he gave inconsistent replies and later confessed he had hidden the diamonds in a condom which he had swallowed, they said.
He was later taken to a nearby government hospital where the diamonds were removed by doctors, they added.
