Mumbai:
Another IPL controversy. This time, it's about time and deadline. Organisers of the IPL have to grapple with yet another task -- that of explaining how they obtained permission to conduct matches beyond the 10 pm deadline.
Sources allege that daughter of Praful Patel, Poorna, who is also IPL's hospitality manager, had met the Chief Minister seeking permission for conducting matches in Navi Mumbai beyond the 10 pm deadline set by the Supreme Court.
IPL officials had also allegedly met the environment minister for special permission to conduct matches and other related programmes, beyond the deadline.
IPL's Chief Operating Officer Sundar Rajan is also said to have written a letter requesting the ministers concerned to grant permission to conduct matches and also permission to play music, special effects and to burst crackers.
However, Minister of State for Home Ramesh Bagwe said, "Nobody has approached my office seeking permission for the same." Bagwe said the law would be the same for everyone.
Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said such permission would not be granted by his office, but by the appropriate authority.
"Although IPL organisers initially sought permission to go beyond the deadline for a longer period, the Thane district collector had granted permission for a match on a single day this year," said a senior official of the Thane Collectorate. "The IPL organisers have already utilised the single day's permission for the conduct of the match."
