Jaipur:
With the festival season round the corner, the district administration has appealed to citizens to buy less colourful sweets, which have a high level of chemicals mixed in them.
"Too much colour in sweets is not good for health and people should avoid them. They should instead prefer those without colour," District supply officer UD Khan said.
The district administration is all set to crack the whip on both the vendors and shopkeepers, who are selling adulterated food items. "We have formed teams to check food adulteration during the festive season and have collected some samples of eatables," he said.
Besides, the administration has also appealed to the people to inform if they found any vendor selling adulterated stuff. "Our mobile laboratories are visiting several shops in the city to check the food items. But, people can directly call the administration, if they found any adulterated food in the city," he added.
Khan pointed out if a vendor or shopkeeper has been found selling them, the medical and health department will present challan against the shopkeeper in the court and if the latter finds him guilty, he will get punishment accordingly.
The district administration is keeping an eye especially on the vendors of clarified butter, mawa, milk and sweets as it is often seen that during the festive season, there is shortage of mawa, milk and other milk products due to the rise in demand. This usually prompts some vendors to sell adulterated milk products to earn more money.
In the last week too, teams of food inspectors of district administration conducted raids at mawa traders. Such kind of raids will continue in the coming days with the administration vigilant during the festive season.
