Garhmukteshwar, Ghaziabad: A freshwater dolphin was found dead on the banks of the Ganges river here, officials said on Monday.
The carcass was found on the banks of the protected 50-kilometre stretch of the river leading to Bulandshahar district, home to about 30 remaining freshwater dolphins, they said.
A group of fishermen had casted nets yesterday in which the dolphin got entangled, officials said, adding the aquatic mammal died after fishermen brought it on the banks.
The carcass was handed over to the River Animal Protection Department, they said.
Local police are looking into the matter.
