Patiala: The Punjab Police today arrested five persons and seized drugs worth Rs 100 crore from a pharmaceutical firm in Karnal in Patiala.
"A huge quantity of drugs has been seized from Karnal-based Pioneer Pharmaceutical and Prime Pharmaceutical Ltd. The firm was involved in making and supplying banned drugs to various parts of the country through its wide network of commission agents," Punjab ADGP Dinkar Gupta said, adding the seized drugs would be worth Rs 100 crore.
The arrested were identified as Rakesh Kumar, Mahesh Kumar, Sanjay Kumar Puri and Parveen Kumar from Delhi and Kamal Raj Chawla of Jalandhar.
He said a special team of police was constituted to nab drug smugglers after the recent seizure from Rajpura in Punjab.
Firm owner Prithvi Singh Chaudhary and his son, Pradipt, however, managed to flee the factory leaving their vehicle during the raid.
During interrogation, the arrested told police that they had been supplying drugs to several states, including Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Gujarat, he added.
