Delhi:
The Youth Men's Christian Association (YMCA) has always been a buzzing place for tourists and students in Delhi. But on Wednesday, it all came to a standstill after a Dutch national was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside the YMCA Tourist hostel.
Fifty-two-year-old Albert G Jean, who arrived in India more than ten days ago, was found lying naked in his bed, with his face covered with foam. According to YMCA hostel staff, Albert was last seen on June 21 when he came to have breakfast and then went inside his room.
"We didn't ask him for meals during the day, as Albert had put 'DO NOT DISTURB' note on his door. On Wednesday morning around 8.30, the cleaners discovered a foul smell emanating from his room. As the door was locked from inside, we used the master key to open the door, and found him lying dead in his bed," said a staff member.
"He was a very reserved man. I used to see him going out twice a day for an hour or so. I tried interacting with him many a times, but he would say 'thank you' to all my questions. He used to buy three Bisleri bottles every morning and evening from a shop outside the hostel. He used to always wear a black coloured outfit and when asked for the purpose of his trip to India, he would say that he is interested to work for the temples here," said Gulshant Kumar, an auto driver, who often stands outside the YMCA Hostel.
"This might be a drug overdose case but the post mortem report is yet to come. Albert was found naked in his room with his face covered with foam and stomach overly bulged. We've informed the Netherlands embassy and are waiting for further information. Meanwhile, we are investigating the matter from all angles," said a police officer.
