Earthquake jolts Uttarakhand, no casualties

Dehradun: An earthquake of moderate intensity shook parts of Uttarakhand on Tuesday evening but there were no immediate reports of any casualty or damage.

The quake, measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale, struck the Garhwal region at 5.45 pm, MeT department Director Anand Sharma said.

Lasting a few seconds, the quake had its epicentre in state's Uttarkashi district, he said.

The tremors were felt in Uttarkashi, Tehri, Dehradun and other districts where frightened residents rushed out their homes in panic.

The officials said there were no immediate reports of any casualty or damage to property.
