Eight inmates have escaped from the district jail here following which the prison staff has been suspended and a case registered against them, authorities said today.
The matter came to light this morning when there was a change in ward duty.
The inmates escaped from the prison last night after cutting the grill of the barrack with the help of an iron saw and later jumped over the 20-feet boundary wall through a rope, DSP Randhir Singh Saini said today.
Saini, who is also the Investigating Officer in the matter, did not rule out the possibility of the involvement of jail staff in the crime.
"Jail staff on duty at the time of incident has been suspended and a case has been registered against them," he said.
All the inmates were arrested in cases of heinous crime like murder.
