Simdega (Jharkhand):
An ex-armyman who was accused of practising witchcraft was axed to death by villagers at Simdega in Jharkhand, the police said on Monday.
Eight persons were arrested for killing ex-armyman Jonathan Baghe (65) for the latter's alleged practise of witchcraft, Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar told newsmen.
The incident took place on Sunday after Jonathan advised Amrit Baghe, Pawal Baghe, Munuren Baghe and Selen Baghe to ring a bell after the burial of Dawood Baghe's daughter, who died of snake bite on September 25, he said.
Jonathan's advice led the accused to suspect that he was practising witchcraft and the black magic was behind the death of Dawood's daughter at Barasloya Jonhatoli village, the police said.
The police has recovered the body from a jungle and sent it for post-mortem.
