Ex-Sub Inspector under scanner for Tamil Nadu cop murder

Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: Shanmuga Sundaram, a retired sub-inspector (SI) and one of the accused in the murder of SI Vetrivel at Ambur near Alwarkurichi on January 7, was also an accused in three murder cases, including that of his wife.

He had been suspended from service four times. "His period under suspension was more than his service period," police said.

He is reportedly a close associate of Kandhasamy, the main accused in the murder of the Vetrivel, police said.

Vetrivel, an SI attached to Alwarkurichi police station in Tirunelveli district was killed by a gang in broad daylight, minutes before the convoy of Ministers M R K Paneerselvam and T P M Mohideen Khan passed that spot.

Three persons have been arrested in connection with the attack on the police official.
