Bangalore:
In a bizarre happening, two men conned the driver of a city businessman by posing as cops. Surprisingly, the incident took place in front of R T Nagar traffic police station while the driver Rajesh was on his way home after dropping his boss at the airport.
According to Rajesh, a man dressed in khaki forced him to stop the car and alleged that he was driving rashly and had overtaken his senior's car. Soon, another man, who was dressed in plain clothes but introduced himself as a traffic cop, joined him and got into Rajesh's car.
They, then, asked Rajesh to drive, as the senior officer wanted to meet him. When Rajesh opposed, they threatened to book him under various sections. Frightened of the consequences that he would have to face, Rajesh obeyed whatever they said.
The duo instructed Rajesh to drive towards Nelamangala. Once there, they took him to Mallige Resort, locked him in one of the rooms, took the keys of his car and left saying that the officer will be there at any moment and will meet him.
But when the officer didn't turn up, Rajesh realised that he had been conned and called the resort staff for help.
He then called up his boss immediately and narrated the incident to him. Acting upon his boss's directions, Rajesh rushed to Sanjay Nagar police station and registered a complaint. The police have registered a case of robbery against the duo.
According to the officer who is investigating the case, the accused may be a part of a gang that's operating in the city by posing as cops. "After we initiated a drive against these gangs, such incidents had stopped. However, I believe that they have surfaced again," he said.
