As a bone-chilling cold wave swept across north India, some places close to Simla witnessed snowfall while lower areas were lashed by rain. A large number of tourists thronged Kufri, which saw the season's first snowfall.
The capital Simla witnessed a sunny day but later in the day the Sun played truant. The 'Queen of Hills' recorded a night temperature of 2.1 degree Celsius against yesterday's 7.1 deg C, Met officials said, adding 14 mm of rain was also recorded in the city.
Elsewhere, Sundernagar recorded a low of 7.1 degree Celsius while it was 4.8 deg C in Bhuntar, 2.9 deg C in Dharamsala and 5.7 deg C in Una, they said. Keylong, the district headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti, was the coldest place in the state where a minimum temperature of minus 7.4 degrees was recorded.
The Met office forecast mainly dry weather for lower hills while high hills could have rain or snow at isolated places on Tuesday.
