Five killed in cracker factory explosion

Bareilly: Five persons, including two children, were today killed and two others injured in an explosion in a cracker shop in Shahjahanpur district in Uttar Pradesh, police said.

The explosion took place around 11.30 am in the fire-cracker shop in Kanth town of the district, Inspector General of Police Devendra Singh Chauhan told PTI.

He said that fire-cracker shop and another adjacent to it turned into debris in the explosion. Two children, a similar number of men and a woman were killed on the spot while two others were seriously injured and were admitted to the hospital, he said.

The IGP said that those killed could not be identified as the bodies were badly charred. The intensity of the blast could be gauged from the fact that nine nearby shops in the area were also damaged. Senior officers have reached the spot and debris was being removed.

This is the third such incident within the last 24 hours. Four persons were killed in an explosion in Hardoi district yesterday, while a woman was killed in blast in Kanpur.
