Wardha, Maharashtra: Five people were killed on Thursday in a head-on collision between a truck and a car on the Yavatmal-Deoli road, 20 km from the district headquarters of Wardha, police said.
"The accident was caused due to the truck driver's negligent and irresponsible driving. He lost control of the vehicle, resulting in a head-on collision with an Indica car coming from the opposite direction," an official from the Wardha Police Control Room said.
None of the five young men in the car survived.
The five dead were identified as: Akash Giri, 20, Amol Ghode, 26, Amit Kamle, 25, Ajay Kumre, 28, and Rahul Thuse, 22, all residents of Yavatmal district.
The truck driver has been booked under charges of rash and negligent driving, but he has run away and not traceable, the police official said.
