Thane: Five persons have been arrested in connection with an armed burglary in Kashimira area in Thane district earlier this month, the police said on Wednesday.
Three persons had gained entry into the house of a real estate agent on August 5 by claiming that they are officials of Income Tax and Police departments, police has said.
They allegedly tied up the agent and his wife with a rope under "gunpoint" and fled with Rs 3 lakh cash and gold ornaments.
A senior district police official said today the alleged mastermind Fiaz Kadar Kazi, 47, in the crime is a scrap dealer who had shifted to Pune.
After Kazi's arrest on August 26, the police picked Manav Sunil Singh, 19, Sohaib Mansur Munshi, 19, Salim alias Sahil Firoz Ansari, 21, and Imran Munna Ali, 25, from Meera Road and Mumbra areas in Thane district.
Police said the object resembling a revolver which was used in the crime has been recovered from the accused.
The object seems to be a lighter, the official said, adding that further investigation is underway.
