Indore:
A five-year-old adopted girl was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a house in Rajiv Awas Vihar area in Indore on Wednesday night, the police said.
As her stepfather and mother began preparing her cremation, residents complained to the police after suspecting that the minor girl, Shivani, was beaten to death.
The body was sent for post-mortem at the M Y Hospital on Thursday morning.
"We are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the cause of her death," Lasudiya police station in-charge Santosh Bhadoriya said.
Meanwhile, her parents are being interrogated on their suspected role leading to her death, he said.
