Ranchi:
Former Ranchi Mayor Rama Khalkho today surrendered to a special vigilance court in case of alleged cash-for-votes scam a day before the April 8 mayoral elections.
Facing a warrant and threat of attachment of her property, Khalkho surrendered to the court of ARK Sinha and was remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.
Khalkho absconded after the court issued arrest warrants on April 9 following an FIR lodged against her and two others after Rs 21.9 lakh was seized from a hotel on April 7.
Two persons, Niranjan Shah and Sudhir Kumar Sahu, were arrested in this connection. The mayoral elections were scrapped later.
Khalkho, who joined the Congress ahead of the Ranchi Municipal Corporation elections, also failed to turn up before the Income Tax department, which had summoned her on April 18.
