Four men used toy guns to rob jewellery shop

Ahmedabad: In a sensational robbery in the heart of the city on Thursday night, four men used toy guns to rob a jewellery shop of Rs30 lakh in cash and gold worth Rs2 lakh at Manek Chowk.

The incident took place around 8:55 pm at Adinath Bullion. Within 10 minutes, the robbers ransacked the shop and walked away with the booty. Khadia police have lodged a case. The shop is situated in the interiors of Manek Chowk and surrounded by residential houses. According to top police officials, four unidentified men barged into the shop carrying fake pistols, thrashed shop owner Ramesh Chandra Dungarpurwala, his son and a worker before fleeing the valuables.

"The robbers were carrying toy guns which were broken during a brawl between them and men in the shop. The plastic guns were broken when they punched the three people on their faces,'' said Khadia police inspector DH Desai.

Soon the area was cordoned off and dog squads were pressed into service. Police said they would soon crack the case as they believed that it was the handy work of some insider. "The incident looks like the handy work of some insider who knows about the shop and its functions.

The way the act was performed suggests that the insider may have leaked all information related the activities in the shop, to the robbers," said Satish Sharma, joint commissioner of police (Sector I).
