Mumbai:
A four-year-old girl who had come from Nashik to her maternal uncle's home to celebrate Diwali died on Sunday evening after she fell from the terrace of the five-storied building in Tardeo.
"The girl, Aditi Santosh Kakad, sustained serious head injuries, and was admitted to the Bhatia hospital in a critical condition. She battled for life for two hours before succumbing to her injuries," said assistant police inspector D Sonawane of the Tardeo police station. The police have registered a case of accidental death.
Aditi was studying in a playschool at Nashik. She had come to the city with her mother Nanda on Sunday at around 2pm to celebrate the festival with her uncle, Ramesh Sangle, at their house at Tardeo, said Sonawane. The terrace had no boundary wall, he added.
Sangle was staying on the fifth floor of the five-storied Yashomandir building at Sane Guruji Marg in Tardeo. The incident took place at around 5.30pm when the family members were at home celebrating Diwali, while the kids were playing outside near the staircase.
Aditi suddenly scaled an iron ladder to reach the terrace through the door on the terrace, which had been left open.
Upon reaching the terrace, the girl could not keep her balance as the terrace was on an incline. She rolled down on one side and fell to her death.
She was found by the neighbours who were celebrating Diwali in the building compound.
