French gay in Mumbai waits for passports for his twins

Mumbai: After an Israeli gay father had trouble getting citizenship for his surrogate twins, now a French gay researcher is stranded in the city with his twins after their birth through surrogacy in a city hospital.

Since surrogacy is not legal in France, the 40-year-old gay father may lose his twins who were born in the last week of April at Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital, Powai if he has to return home alone or fails to get passport for his sons.

The researcher, who does not want to be identified, said he will be approaching the French Consulate today as he had requested for incorporation of the twins in the French Registry. He had submitted the birth certificates of the twins provided by the hospital.

This is important to get French passports for the new-borns, he said.
