Puducherry:
French nationals residing in Puducherry, a former French colony, exercised their franchise at the first round of Presidential polls held here simultaneously along with their country on Sunday.
Men and women voters turned up at the booths for the polls in which incumbent President Nicolas Sarkozy is also in the fray.
Puducherry and other regions coming under the jurisdiction of the French Consulate General here have more than 5,700 voters, official sources said.
Polling booths were set up in the premises of the office of French Consul General and also at the French Institute and Lycee Francais, higher secondary school run by French government.
Special arrangements were made for the physically challenged, aged and infirm electorate to enable them to reach the booth and cast their votes.
The second round of polling has been scheduled for May 6.
