Malda: Infant deaths returned to haunt the Malda Medical College where nine babies have died in two days.
Seven of the babies were just 15-days-old. Vice-principal of the hospital Dr M A Rashid said most of them came from rural hospitals in Malda district and outside with problems ranging from pneumonia to septicaemia.
Dr Rashid said with nine more deaths, the crib death toll has shot up to 125 in the last 16 days.
He said experts belonging to Sick Newborn Care Units would shortly visit the hospital to have a look at the infrastructure.
