Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh:
A 20-year-old MBA student was allegedly kidnapped and killed by his three friends who had demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh from his parents.
The police have arrested two of the accused using electronic surveillance while the third is absconding. Shishir Pandey's body was recovered from an abandoned well in the Ayodhya Kotwali police station area today after the accused confessed.
Shishir, the only son of Anand Pandey, a college teacher, was pursuing his MBA in Faizabad Avadh University. "He had left his house for college on Monday morning," Ayodhya police circle officer (CO) Rakesh Kumar Pandey said.
"But when Shishir didn't return till late Monday evening, his family members tried to contact him but found his mobile switched off. At midnight, they received a phone call demanding Rs 10 lakhs for release of their son," he said.
According to the police, Shishir was on his way to the college, when he was intercepted by Sunil, Anil and Afroz, who took him to Sunil's house.
Shishir, while trying to resist his kidnappers suffered serious injuries which led to his death. The kidnappers dumped Shishir's body in an old well near his house covering it with a stone slab.
Sunil used a new sim card to make the ransom call to Shishir's parents but the police managed to reach the kidnappers by tracking the mobile number.
Sunil and Afroz have been arrested, while Anil is absconding.
