Before Dying, From Hospital Bed, She Described How She Was Stalked

The police in Sangrur say that the girl's suicide attempt is linked to a family problem

Sangrur: While fighting for her life, a 16-year-old asked her brother to record her account of how three men in their village stalked her. Unable to bear the harassment, she said in the video shot on her brother's cellphone, she poured kerosene on herself and lit a match.

The teen died this afternoon at a hospital in Chandigarh from the burns that covered her. The police had refused to register her complaint.

The 16-year-old said that last week, three men from her village harassed her on a bus as she was headed home from school. She said they also beat her up, but she didn't complain to her father because she feared he would stop her from attending school.
 

While in hospital, she shared her account, her brother recorded her statement

The teenager alleged that the men had harassed her on several other occasions over four months as a way of getting even with her brother, with whom they were warring over land.

The police in her village said that her suicide attempt is linked to a family problem and have refused so far to register a case.
