Gang throws currency notes, steals laptop

Bangalore: Incidents of attention diversion followed by theft are on the rise in Bangalore despite attempts by the police to curb the menace. The latest such incident came to light when Jitendranath, the personal assistant to the State Human Rights Commission, lodged a complaint of theft.

Jitendranath said he was busy withdrawing money from the State Bank of India ATM on Residency Road, while his driver waited in the car outside. Jitendranath returned a few minutes later to find his laptop bag missing.

The driver said some unidentified men dumped currency notes under the car and while his attention was diverted, they made away with the laptop bag kept at the back of his car.

According to the police, a Tamil Nadu-based gang operating in and around the city's busy commercial areas is behind the thefts.  Efforts are on to nab the gang that strikes in different neighbourhoods and constantly changes its area of operations to evade intensive police intensify patrolling that follows their strikes.

Inspector Radha Krishna of the Ashok Nagar police said a case of theft has been registered. "We are investigating the case," said Krishna.
